Organizational QI Capacity Building

The CQuIPS Quality Improvement (QI) Capacity Building program has a track record in partnering with integrated health systems to train individuals and teams to apply QI principles to advance quality-of- care priorities. CQuIPS co-designs and delivers training for diverse participant groups that span clinicians, community health workers, patients and caregivers and health system leaders working in acute, post-acute, primary and community-based care settings.”

Workshop Topic Menu

Organizations have numerous potential improvement opportunities – but how should you choose what to prioritize? Our team will help you to select improvement targets strategically to maximize relevance, feasibility and impact.
You cannot improve what you cannot measure. Learn how to create a comprehensive measurement plan for your QI initiative and discover how even small data samples can yield big returns in QI. Participants will also practice constructing and interpreting a run chart, a powerful tool that displays data over time to evaluate change.
QI teams need to “diagnose” the factors contributing to a QI problem before they can implement changes. Using locally relevant examples, we will use interactive hands-on exercises to introduce participants to fundamental QI tools such as process mapping, cause and effect diagrams and Pareto charts.
Prematurely jumping to solutions can leave teams disappointed with their project results. To maximize the likelihood of success, we will help teams to clearly articulate a theory for your proposed QI intervention to identify the key ingredients that address the issues that give rise to your target problem.
PDSA cycles are based in the scientific method and are mini-experiments that allow QI teams to learn what works when developing a QI initiative, iteratively refine the intervention to make sure it works as intended, and eventually implement a change that will be both impactful and sustained.
Teams embarking on a QI initiative must engage stakeholders at every step of the project, from its inception and design stages all the way through to its eventual implementation and evaluation. We provide concrete strategies for how teams can identify and appropriately engage key stakeholders relevant to their QI work.
Qualitative approaches enhance your QI projects by answering “how” and “why” care processes unfold the way they do in clinical settings. Learn how to use interviews, focus groups and clinical observation at every stage of your QI project.
While all changes do not lead to improvement, all improvement requires change. We will teach change management strategies relevant to the implementation of local QI initiatives, drawing upon a variety of well-recognized frameworks that prepare teams to lead meaningful system-level change.
